Connection: The Araucanía Andina allows for easy access to pristine and truly wild locations where you can find peaceful and rejuvenating nooks around every corner. From roadside waterfalls and short walks to lone summits and powder fields far from the buzz of society. Look out your window and understand what it is to wake up in paradise surrounded by the beauty of nature.
Araucarias: The Araucaria tree is sacred to the indigenous people who have live in the region for thousands of years and it's easy to understand why. They are trees with a majestic form and a vibration that can be felt in their presence and even more upon wrapping your arms around the trunks that are covered in soft "barba de viejo" which translates to "old man's beard. The slow growing tree averages only 5-8cm each year but can live for more than 1,000 years was under threat until 1987 when the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture declared them a National Monument. Thankfully these trees that outlived the dinosaurs can be enjoyed wherever you go near the town of Malalcahuello.
Termas: Thermal vents are abundant in the land of living giants, three of Chile's top ten most active volcanos are located in the Araucania region so it's no wonder that there are numerous hot springs. Most of them have been developed into fantastic small business but all natural tubs can still be found near the border between Chile and Argentina. Two of the best near Malalcahuello are Termas Cañon del Blanco and Termas de Manzanar, both locations have a variety of beautiful tubs that range from private to pool. Lovers, friends, and families there is an experience that will bring you the relaxation and rejuvenation needed to vacation on!
Volcanos: The only thing that dominates the landscape more than the Araucaria trees are the Volcanos. Eight Stratovolcanos rise up form the valleys and tower over the surrounding mountainscape each with a distinct beauty that will capture your attention and your desires. People from around the world travel to vacation in Chile, many of which are motivated by goals of reaching a volcanic summit. From tame and easy to bold and beastly there are volcanos that will draw you in. Some do so with their beauty and others for the simplicity of access including Crater Navidad. On Christmas Day 1988 it began rising from the flanks of Lonquimay Volcano and in just a few weeks grew more than 200m through an eruptive process that continued for more than a year.
Culture: The warmth of the South can be felt in the Araucanía and the hospitality of the indigenous people is a powerful reminder that they are the original caretakers. Here you will feel welcome in conversations regardless of your ability to speak Spanish or Mapudungun which is the indigenous language. In the Araucanía the eyes are capable of speaking what the soul is feeling, you will fall into the clam of a conversation shared while sipping mate and being thankful that you ventured out of your comfort zone.
Lifetime experiences await you in the Araucanía Andina!
